Y+ Global Board Member - 2026 Call for Applications

Are you a young person living with HIV who is passionate about making a difference in your community, country, region, and globally? We are looking for committed youth leaders to join the Board of the Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global).

Background

Y+ Global is the largest global network of young people living with HIV, collaborating with over 109 implementing partners across 30 countries. Our network is led by young people, for young people.

Founded in 2005, Y+ Global is headquartered in the Netherlands and Cape Town, South Africa. Our mission is to empower young people living with and affected by HIV to assert their rights, influence policies, and lead effective solutions tailored to their needs.

Since 2024, Y+ Global has reached over 102,000 young people through our advocacy, capacity-building, and skills-building programs, as well as leadership and empowerment initiatives, positively impacting more than 850,000 lives. We operate at the intersection of HIV, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, and human rights, promoting youth-led accountability and inclusion at both global, regional and national levels. As a global youth network, we ensure that the diverse voices of young people are at the forefront of decision-making and policy discussions on their health, well-being, and rights.

What is the role of the Board?

The Y+ Global Board plays a crucial role in guiding and strengthening the Y+ Global network. Its key responsibilities include setting program priorities, making decisions through a transparent process, ensuring that diverse communities of young people living with and affected by HIV from all regions are represented in decision-making, and empowering young leaders from around the world.

The Y+ Board consists of 8 to 10 young leaders, all under 30 and living with HIV, representing various regions around the world. These regions include West and Central Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECCA), West and Central Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America. Together, they work towards the network's vision and advocate for their respective regions globally.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for committed youth advocates and leaders to join the Board of Y+ Global from the following regions:
1. Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA)
2. West and Central Europe
3. Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA)
4. Latin America
5. North America

To apply, young leaders must be:
• Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the time of application and openly living with HIV.
• Candidates should be nationals or citizens of one of the countries listed in the designated regions.
• Proficiency in English is required, along with the ability to communicate effectively.
• Applicants should have demonstrated experience working in national or regional HIV and SRH responses.
• Experience working with youth-led or youth-serving organisations is essential.
• A passion for empowering young people, supporting their leadership, and facilitating their meaningful engagement in health and decision-making processes is necessary.
• Candidates must be willing to commit to a two-year voluntary contract.
• Applicants should be open-minded, culturally sensitive, and eager to collaborate with others through an inclusive approach.
• Candidates should be team players who can contribute ideas to strengthen Y+ Global as a leading organisation for young people living with or affected by HIV.

Key responsibilities and tasks

Board members are collectively responsible for the strategic, ethical, and accountable leadership of Y+ Global. Key responsibilities include:
• Uphold ethical, transparent, and accountable governance of Y+ Global.
• Provide oversight and strategic guidance for the implementation of Y+ Global’s Strategic Plan.
• Actively participate in virtual and in-person Board and working group meetings
• Contribute to the development, review, and approval of policies related to the health, rights, and well-being of young people living with and affected by HIV.
• Strengthen engagement with youth-led and youth-serving organisations and networks within their region.
• Champion Y+ Global’s mission, values, and strategic priorities, and contribute to the organisation’s strategic direction.
• Provide regular regional updates on emerging issues, priorities, and opportunities, including quarterly written reports.
• Represent Y+ Global at meetings, conferences, and events as requested by the Board, following a transparent selection process, and submit a brief report within two weeks of participation.
• Provide technical input and support to networks of young people living with and affected by HIV, including contributing to evidence-informed technical assistance plans aligned with identified needs and gaps.
• Support the recruitment, oversight, and ongoing support of senior Secretariat members.
• Participate in the annual review of key strategic and governance documents, including policies, work plans, memoranda of understanding, and terms of reference.

Remuneration and support

Y+ Global Board positions are voluntary and non-remunerated. To ensure equitable and meaningful engagement and to remove certain engagement barriers within the board duties, Y+ Global will provide the following support to Board members:
• A communications stipend to cover internet and data costs related to Board duties.
• Support for travel, accommodation, and per diem costs for approved in-person meetings and official representation.
• Access to capacity-strengthening opportunities, including leadership development, governance training, and advocacy-related learning activities.
• Ongoing practical and administrative support from the Y+ Global Secretariat to enable effective participation.

Y+ Global is committed to fostering inclusive, accessible, and safe participation, and continuously reviews its support mechanisms to reflect available resources and the needs of Board members.
