Women´s participation was one of the topic discussed in the generation equality forum, which is a civil-society centered, global gathering for gender equality convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France. The objective of this forum is to accelerate the progress in equality, leadership and opportunity for women and girls worldwide.
Women’s participation in decision-making process is a right, nowadays the woman’s participation is not as equal as that of men: who are more privileged. The participation of women has not changed significantly since the Beijing +25 review process, which took place from March 2019 to September 2020.
Even if the law does not prevent women from participating, we need a structure that supports women to participate more because the current structure does not effectively facilitate the process. “Women represent more than half of the population in most of societies and when they do not participate in decision-making processes, it is a sign of overthrow of democracy and lack of equity in societies”.
We must guarantee young women´s participation and leadership in societies because they are important agents of change, everyone have to be involved in this process especially governments and Civil Society.
