Tinashe joined Y+ Global as the Communications, Evidence, and Influence Manager in 2019 and then became the Director of Programmes, Management, and Governance in July 2021.
Under his leadership, Y+ Global has became a thriving, independent organization. We have launched a global strategy, increased our funding, and diversified our income base to achieve our strategic goals. Additionally, Tinashe has spearheaded regional consultations with young people to influence policy decisions on the health and rights of young people living with HIV, including the Global AIDS Strategy and the Global Fund Strategy.
The Directors extend their warmest thanks to Tinashe for his dedicated service to Y+ Global and are confident that he will continue to make a tremendous impact in the movements of young people, sexual reproductive health, HIV, and key populations."We would like to thank the outgoing Director of Programmes, Management, and Governance for all his hard work. Under his leadership, he ensured the implementation fidelity of all our organizational policies and compliance with our funders and was accountable to the communities of young people living with HIV and young people from key populations. He contributed immensely to the increase of the organizational funding by 33%.”Tanaka Chirombo
Y+ Global Board Chair
Tinashe will be greatly missed for his contributions. According to Itumeleng Komanyane, Lead Programmes at Frontline AIDS:“I have had a great experience working with Y+ Global for the past three and a half years. From overseeing communications and advocacy to providing strategic direction for national, regional, and global programmes. It was a great experience to ensure that we mainstream young key populations' programming and advocacy across all our interventions, contributing to resources, publications, journals, and policies and supporting over 110 partners from 34 countries around the world with grants that strengthened their organizational and individual capacity as well as advocacy on the health, rights, and wellbeing of young people in all our diversity.
I am very confident that the Y+ Global Executive Office will continue to deliver on the strategic plan and all our commitments to funders and the communities of young people.”Tinashe G. Rufurwadzo
Y+ Global Director of Programmes, Management and Governance
In the interim, the HER Voice Fund Coordinator, Maximina Jokonya will deputize to ensure the smooth continuation of all programmes and partnerships whilst an Executive Director is recruited.“Tinashe, you brought so much energy, incredible innovation, and a legacy to behold. All this while never forgetting your voice. In every room you walked into, you brought community with you, and you stood firm on your advocacy for the ethical and meaningful engagement of young people living with HIV and young people from key populations. You held us all accountable, resulting in an incredible legacy of impact.
Thank you for all your hard work. If the last couple of years is anything to go by, I know you're going on to greater success.”Itumeleng Komanyane
