UNAIDS must not be sunset: A statement from Y+ Global
The Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global) issues a youth-led statement opposing the proposal to “sunset” UNAIDS by 2026, stressing that dismantling the only UN body dedicated to HIV would undermine global progress toward ending AIDS by 2030. The statement highlights UNAIDS’ vital role in accountability, coordination, and amplifying community and youth voices, while warning that reducing its mandate would reverse gains and put millions of lives at risk. It calls for strengthened investments, partnerships, and political will to safeguard UNAIDS’ leadership and ensure the HIV response remains inclusive, effective, and sustainable.
